| CertainTeed Winterguard™ is used for the prevention of ice dam damage. Ice dams form at the edge of the roof and as the snow and ice melt it will push water up and under the shingles. If the water gets under the shingles and to your roof deck it can cause mildew and mold to grow and can also cause premature aging of the roof deck. The water can also get into your attic, the ceilings and also into the walls.
The waterproofing underlayment works with the ventilation and insulation to fight the creation of ice dams. The insulation helps to keep the heat from escaping into the attic while the ventilation system helps to evenly cool the roof deck so the snow doesn't melt on the roof. The Winterguard™ lays under the shingles and protects the roof deck.
