When the popular PBS television show This Old House launches into its 30th anniversary season this fall, one of the projects featured will be the incredible makeover of an 1870s-era Second Empire in the urban Boston neighborhood of Roxbury, Mass. As part of the Economic Stimulus package, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 modifies and extends federal tax credits for eligible building components that improve energy efficiency. This allows a 30% credit for the amount paid by an individual for qualified improvements. The credit is limited to $1,500 for improvements made during 2009 and 2010.
